The Power of Showing Up

Success doesn’t start with perfection—it starts with presence. I didn’t have the skills. I didn’t have the speed. But I had the courage to try, and that changed everything.

The biggest transformation in your life won’t come from some grand event—it’ll come from the simple habit of showing up. Day in, day out. That’s where the magic starts.

At the start of this year, I threw myself into the deep end—literally—and signed up for some duathlons and triathlons. The twist? I hadn’t ridden a bike or swum properly since I was 14. And to be honest, I wasn’t great at either back then.

So when I jumped into the pool for the first time in nearly three decades, it was humbling. I couldn’t even finish a single length of freestyle. Breathing felt impossible. I lost count of

how many times I ended up spluttering like a fountain in the middle of the pool. Breathing in when I should’ve breathed out... yeah, not ideal.

But even when I felt like it was all too much, I kept showing up. That was the key. One length became two. Then three. Then four. Now I can swim 1000 meters unbroken—not fast, but I can do it. And every time I show up, it gets a little bit easier, a little bit quicker.

I’m only about 12 weeks into this journey, but the progress has been huge—simply because I kept turning up.

This is what life’s about:

Set a goal.

Pick a date.

Create a plan.

Then show up. Again. And again. And again.

Things won’t get easier by giving up. They get easier by doing. So believe in yourself and chase the life you want—because you deserve to be happy.

One quote that’s stuck with me—and hit me right in the heart—is this:

“For those who can’t.”

Whenever things feel tough, I remind myself that there are people out there who would give anything to do what I’m doing. So I keep going—for them, for me, for all the reasons I started in the first place.

Let’s show up. Let’s push through. Let’s live for the ones who can’t.
